Albums 61-63

Suffering Hour – In Passing Ascension (6/10)

Electric Light Orchestra – Time (8/10)

My Dying Bride – Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light (7/10)

These really do take me a while to get through sometimes, but not just out of time or laziness. Some of these albums really benefit from many many listens, in different circumstances and places. What might not hit me in the car, really comes through on headphones later. This brings out stuff I couldn’t have heard the first time. For example, the MDB album has 3 songs I put on my favorites playlist, but I wouldn’t have picked those for that even after the second listen.

Suffering Hour has an amazing sound to it, I love the guitars and vocals, but the song kinda just skip through my head. I can remember a few riffs sometimes, but I couldn’t tell you which song was which to be entirely honest. There’s even one song that stops halfway through and starts up a new section and the first few listens I thought they were two separate songs. It’s a great listen, but after that it leaves my brain.

Electric Light Orchestra kind of required me to get in a different mindset, but oh man when it hit, it really hit. I can totally see that it’s a pop sensation and why it sold so many copies. There are still some odd qualities to it that I find really hard to put into words. Perhaps some form of nostalgia that makes me feel weird, but I can overlook that during the really great songs.

My Dying Bride, like I said above, took a few spins to really get a grip on. The songs that are great really stick with me, the others obviously don’t. I feel like this band could have something amazing if an album was all the first type.
